This is a Tamil Folk Song, typically sung around the harvest season or Pongal.
Though this isn't a devotional bhajan or Indian classical song which is the main genre of
songs on this site, I decided to post this recording here finally, since it involved several
members of my family and my sister's family and we practiced a lot and used high-tech
mixing and editing techniques to produce the end product. In short, it was a very gratifying
feeling after working a couple of hard days on this during the 2005 Thansgiving weekend and I
wanted to share it with anyone interested in such music.
Here are all the people involved in this recording:
Lyrics: Janaki Ananth (my sister, who learnt this when she was very young, at school)
Singers: Partha Mandayam (myself) and Rangu Mandyam (my sister)
Violin: Vasudev Mandyam (my nephew)
Flute: Mala Mandyam (my niece) and Keshav Mandayam (my son)
